These documents represent the start of an effort to detail the experience of African Americans and their descendents who came to Saskatchewan (and Alberta) in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s to homestead. The first group came to the territory that was to become known as Saskatchewan prior to 1905. The organization mapping this development is the Saskatchewan African Canadian Historical Museum Inc. The Board is working to establish a virtual, that is to say an on-line, museum. Board of Directors decided to go the route of a virtual museum because it is affordable and its reach is greater (the “internet world”) than a building. As well, students from grades 8 through 12 indicated they were more likely to visit a “virtual’ museum on-line then go to one that is located in a building. They offered many reasons: travel, inconvenience and in some cases adult supervision may have to be arranged to travel to a museum.
